When tacky is tasteful, there’s free booze

What’s more disturbing, the ugly sweater or the improper use of an apostrophe?

The holiday season is upon us; and dusting the mothballs off the hideously tacky Christmas sweater in your closet is just as much of a tradition as breaking out the Christmas lights.

So if you're looking for an appropriate occasion to don your festive garment this year, Beauty Bar has the answer. Wear that crazy woolen beast to Thursday's annual Ugly Sweater X-mas Party.

Here are three good reasons to take your tasteless holiday cheer downtown this year:

Calendar

Ugly sweater holiday party
Dec. 17, 10 p.m., Free
Beauty Bar
598-1965

• Prizes! Not only are you encouraged to dress your worst, but you're also rewarded. An "ugliest sweater" contest will be held, and the prizes are definitely worth getting in touch with your competitive side for. First place wins two free tickets to the Black Rebel Motorcycle concert February 28th at Wasted Space. Whoever said landing on the worst-dressed list is a bad thing?

• After-party! Once the contest is over, Beauty Bar will host a Lady Gaga after-party, featuring a live DJ set by the singer's opener, Semi Precious Weapons. A few lucky "ugly sweater" runner-ups will receive the consolation prize of concert swag. Free stuff makes every loss seem like a victory.

• Open Bar! Free vodka and beer will be available from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Once again, free stuff makes everyone feel like a winner, especially when it comes with the added bonus of a hangover.
