Valentine’s Day seems like the perfect time to fall in love (or back in love) with one of Mexico’s most beloved and interesting ’90s alternative-rock acts—one equally influenced by The Cure and King Crimson. Black History Month Festival at Springs Preserve

This 11th annual celebration of African American culture, history and community offers cooking demos, photography of historic black Las Vegas, live music from local acts (The Lique, Cameron Calloway, Molodi and more), activities for kids, arts & crafts and even a Vegas Golden Knights floor hockey clinic. Nikki Glaser at Terry Fator Theatre

If there’s a roast in town, you can bet Nikki Glaser will be there. The no-holds-barred comedian is a fixture on Comedy Central, and on stand-up specials on Netflix and in the podcast world. Glaser is such an open book that there’s little about her life that’s off-limits, but catch her at the Mirage and you’ll definitely find something new to laugh about. Whi Culinary Celebration

Women’s Hospitality Initiative, a local organization aiming to accelerate the development of women leaders in the food service industry, will gather the city’s top female chefs, mixologists, sommeliers and restaurateurs for this inaugural culinary celebration. An evening of food, wine and cocktails kicks off with a screening of A Fine Line, Joanna James’ documentary about the gender gap in the culinary industry. Men on Boats at Vegas Theatre Company

Manifest destiny? More like manifest fun! The latest play by the theater company formerly known as Cockroach offers an all-female/non-binary performance of a very masculine story. The Jaclyn Backhaus-penned physical comedy Men on Boats tells the “truish history” of the 1869 John Wesley Powell expedition to map the Colorado River. It features a one-armed leader, river rapids and, of course, the Grand Canyon. The trip is perilous and the 10 “men” face mortal danger as they map the lands that are now our home.

It was a New York Times Critic’s Pick when it played Off Off Broadway in 2015, with the reviewer calling it a “rollicking history pageant” that churned up “bright clouds of testosterone.”

“Men on Boats is a [theatrically vibrant] story and comes with all the thrills of a rapid run in the Wild West,” Vegas Theatre Company Artistic Director Daz Weller says in a press statement. Celestia’s Allegra Libonati directs. February 19-March 15, Days & times vary, $15-$33. –C. Moon Reed
