"Maybe the more adventuresome will say, 'I saw this f*cking thing that’s a giant cat head. Why don’t we go check that out,’” said artist Jesse Smigel earlier this year while putting the finishing touches on his giant cat head sculpture slated for Downtown’s Arts District.

As of today, that's an option. Smigel’s cartoonish sculpture (made of Styrofoam and hard-coat) has been installed and is ready for its close-up on the corner of First Street and Coolidge Avenue, as the inaugural sculpture for the City of Las Vegas’ First Street Art Trail.

The 10-foot-tall carved domestic in a blue collar poses as if licking its paw, sans paw, however, leaving space for the viewer to step in and act out the scenario, post the image on social media and let it fly into the digital ether for all to see and share and repeat—an art project that keeps on giving.
