Get intoxicated by Pink Martini’s genre-bending musical whirlwind

Possibly one of the great mysteries in life is how audiences at sophisticated performance halls are able to restrain themselves when the genre-crossing, excessively talented Pink Martini takes the stage.

Few bands have the ability to seduce listeners as powerfully as this 12-member “little orchestra.” Alternating between female vocalists Storm Large and China Forbes, Pink Martini’s multilingual music steeped in Latin beats, French melodies and romantic lyrics, brings in classical, pop and jazz—alternating between dreamily wistful and wildly rhythmic. Its hauntingly beautiful “Qué Sera Sera” is so passionate and tender, it will have you weeping. Its hypnotically sultry “Never on Sunday” (sung in Greek) stays with you.

Performing at the Smith Center with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, this Oregon-rooted, internationally acclaimed group brings to the stage its playful elegance and immeasurable talent. If that isn’t enough, consider that the powerhouse, multi-genre vocalist Storm Large (who sold out two performances at Cabaret Jazz in 2014) is singing the songs.

Pink Martini February 6, 7:30 p.m., $100-$250. Smith Center's Reynolds Hall, 702-749-2000.
