Wake up to señorita bread at Las Vegas’ Starbread Bakery

A warm pastry is often the only thing that can get me out of bed in the morning. A sweet doughnut? A flaky croissant? Consider me conscious.

Enter Starbread Bakery. Since originating in Vallejo, California, in 1988, the business has expanded to 12 spots in California, and Las Vegas’ first location celebrates its one-year anniversary this month.

The bakery first became known for its señorita bread, a small, oblong-shaped roll owners Nelly and Romy Maranan have been baking since 1986. These airy buns come warm and filled with melted butter and sugar, available in orders of five ($3) to 60 ($36) pieces.

There are plenty of other treats at Starbread, everything from doughnuts to egg tarts, brookies to cupcakes and beyond. I tried the cake squares ($1.50)—cupcakes without the frosting—which come in a variety of flavors, including classics like Red Velvet and more unique options like ube. My mango cake square was light and delightfully spongy. And on days when you need something savory, try the spinach and cream cheese croissant ($3.75) , flaky and flavorful.

The simple shop has no tables or seats, but it’s filled with the scent of coffee and pastries. It’s set up for grab and go, perfect for days when you’re fully awake, or not.

STARBREAD BAKERY 2381 E. Windmill Lane #22, 702-260-4803, starbreadca.com. Daily, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.
