Fashion’s Night Out brings world-class style to the masses

Pumped! Designer Donald J. Pliner will sign your shoe if you ask him to.

You know it's been a rough few years for retail when the fashion industry throws a party and invites everybody. But that's exactly what's happening September 10 for Fashion's Night Out. Far from the usual A-list-only affairs that make the pages of major fashion mags, this nationwide party celebrating shopping, style and the (eventual) return of consumer confidence is a miniature fashion week for the rest of us. In other words, it's full of fashion shows, special deals and parties almost all packed into one very busy night. This year, the New York import hits Las Vegas, and as per usual, we're taking it to a level all our own.

Calendar

Fashion's Night Out
September 10, 6-11 p.m., various locations.

Stores up and down the Strip will celebrate Fashion's Night Out with specially tailored events stocked with giveaways, complimentary cocktails and celebrity appearances. At the Forum Shops, Lacoste hosts an in-store Wii tennis tournament for prizes and at Fendi, a brand craftsman will be on hand to personalize bags. Expert footwear designer Donald J. Pliner himself will make an appearance at his store inside the Caesars Palace mall and sign shoes from his collection from 9-11 p.m. Meanwhile, at the Fashion Show Mall, Saks Fifth Avenue will offer complimentary mini-manicures in the beauty department while Neiman Marcus hosts a trunk show from red-soled stiletto king Christian Louboutin. Wynn Las Vegas and Encore will welcome shoppers with events at more than 20 stores, including Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Manolo Blahnik. Designer Katherine Parnello of Gimme More Couture will make an appearance at Black Satin Intimates, while the Oscar de la Renta store hosts a Latin-style party with merengue music, dancing and plenty of top-shelf style. If the recession has a silver lining, perhaps it's that it's taken high fashion off its high horse.
