Two Weekly writers gripe over the failed Henderson library measure

Image

Two Henderson Library District branches will now close due to the measure’s failure.

I understand there are voters wanting less government, but when people spend $20 on Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters, yet vote against giving an extra $7-$14 a year to help Henderson libraries, it’s clear our priorities are f*cked. No wonder we bottom every national list. As a property owner, I had no problem voting yes. —Kristen Peterson

To keep two libraries open, Henderson asked voters to approve a small property tax increase—in a city full of renters. Next time, how about we try to pass an initiative that gets everyone contributing equally? I’m all for helping our libraries, but the entire community should come together to support them. —Mark Adams
