Star Trek, “The City on the Edge of Forever” (1967) Acclaimed sci-fi author Harlan Ellison wrote this classic episode in which Kirk, Spock and McCoy travel through a portal to 1930s New York City, where Kirk must sacrifice the woman he loves for the sake of restoring history.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) The second movie featuring the original series cast highlights one of Trek’s most memorable villains (Ricardo Montalbán as Khan) and features some of the series’ most quotable lines and riveting moments.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, “Chain of Command” (1992) This intense, dark two-part episode features Captain Picard captured and tortured by the Cardassians while his temporary replacement on the Enterprise engages in some questionable tactics. It’s both a tour de force for Patrick Stewart as Picard and a resonant story about the compromises of war.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, “Trials and Tribble-ations” (1996) The humorous, playful side of Trek comes out in this episode that places the Deep Space Nine cast within footage from the original series, as they travel back in time thanks to the pesky, ever-multiplying Tribbles.

Star Trek: First Contact (1996) The first solo movie for the Next Generation cast is an exciting, action-packed story involving the Borg. Any questions about whether the newer characters could carry their own movie were answered with this suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat blockbuster.
