DIGITAL TONY: Going Medieval on Your Patio

Gear-heads at Seven; Prom at Prana; Palms turns 2

Antonio Llapur

Big-time fan favorite Donald Glaude was in town for a DJ set at Seven on Tuesday. Now if you're thinking that Tuesday is an odd day for Seven, you're right. The gig was in honor of the big hot-rod convention that vroomed its way through town last week.

There was a happening crowd of gear-heads grooving to Glaude's sounds, but I was apprehensive. I had heard him at the Pimp 'N' Ho ball over Labor Day, and had been disappointed.

Tuesday, I found myself disappointed again. The set I heard sounded similar to the Labor Day event. But, his selections gelled better with the gear-heads than with the Pimp 'N' Ho crowd.

It was the first time I'd been by the club in a few months. I noticed that some remodeling had gone down. There is a slightly medieval theme growing inside the club, curious but kind of cool. What stumped me is why the Seven and Alesium gang decided to do away with that grooving Strip patio. The entrance is now where the patio was, which has you entering the club off the Strip. While there's still outdoor seating, it just isn't the same. That patio was the reason many people even went to the club in the first place.

Prana Prom perfection possible

I went over to Prana at the Aladdin for their Prom Night Saturday. I was disappointed there wasn't a true prom atmosphere going on. A night like this could be a real hit, but four to six weeks of heavy promotion would be needed. You've got to give the kids time enough to get excited—the girls, especially. I know some young ladies who would've bought gowns and everything if they'd had more notice.

Still, I'm just nitpicking. Prana has been doing a bang-up job. The music was a lot better this time around, too. Keith Evan and local legend Robert Oleysyck were on hand, and both did their usual excellent work.

Before I forget, Oleysyck was coaxed into playing Drai's monthly spin-off last week, and with no surprise, he won. He's got himself a residency over at Drai's now, so be sure to stop by and check him out.

Palmarific Celebrations

Finally, I want to make sure all you crazy kids know about the big second anniversary celebrations at the Palms all this weekend. The Palms is the hottest resort in town so expect them to throw out all the stops. Rain is the center of attention, with a bevy of clubbing fun. Thursday, catch dynamic DJ duo Scooter and LaVelle, while Friday, be sure not to miss an extra-special performance by a secret-surprise guest. Spend Saturday boogying to the sounds of Rain residents ROB and Hollywood, and wrap up the celebration with Seal on Sunday night.
