A&E: Tricks, Treats and Everything In Between

Put your masks on and take your clothes off for Halloween ‘03 Vegas style

Antonio Llapur

The corpses are hung by the chimney with care; the kids are nestled in their coffins, with visions of disemboweled demons dancing in their heads; and I've got the hatchets and chainsaws ready, my dear. That's right, all you ghouls and goblins, Halloween is right around the corner.

Halloween in Vegas is truly a special time. It's the time when all the clubs go into overdrive to produce the best party week of the year. But there are so many options that it's easy for the average person's head to explode in an orgy of brains and goo. But don't worry, your one and only Digital Tony has got a crypt full of tricks and treats guaranteed to scare the pants off you.

Halloween festivities rev up early this year, with the Fetish and Fantasy Masquerade Ball at the Orleans Arena on Saturday. This is always the sexy highlight of the season. Unfortunately, this is the final year for the world-famous ball, so get your naughtiest costumes together and don't miss your last chance to witness this groovy spectacle.

Your next best bet is the weeklong festivities at MGM's Studio 54. Tuesday night, 54's mega-hit EDEN (Erotically Delicious Entertainer's Night) becomes Hallow-EDEN, with residents Jose 2 Hype and DJ Frankie spinning some devilishly sinful tracks to get you pumped up for trick or treating.

On Thursday, October 30, get scared for a good cause. DJs ROB and Lisa Pittman headline the 37th annual Beaux Arts Ball, with all proceeds benefiting Golden Rainbow, which helps men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in the Las Vegas community.

Friday night features my personal pick of the week. Studio 54's "Nightmare on 54th Street" is where I'll be spending my Halloween night. It was the best party I went to last year, and there's no way in hell I'm missing it. Guests are encouraged to come dressed (or barely dressed) in their sexiest attire. Over $8,000 is up for grabs in one of the wildest costume contests in town. The party isn't over there, either. "Nightmare" continues on Saturday night. 54 pulls out all the stops for Halloween. There will be fire breathers, stilt walkers, and all manners of ghouls and goblins. Plus, there'll be nightly performances of Michael Jackson's "Thriller," as well as erotically charged performances of Rocky Horror. You'd be a fool to pass up 54. Be sure to hit up at least one of these parties.

Rain in the Desert at the Palms gets you ready for the ghosts and goblins with their Thursday night Halloween Eve bash, "Resident Evil" with resident DJs ROB, Hollywood, and Dre.

On the actual All Hallow's Eve, you've got more parties than you can shake a broomstick at. Head over to Curve at the Aladdin for their "Haunted Mansion" party, with the great DJ line-up of Frankie Bones and Kasper. If Curve's not your bag, check out Bikini's at the Rio for a set from the legendary Kid Capri. I stopped by Bikini's last Halloween and it was a total madhouse. Expect more of the same this year.

The Beach, right across from the Las Vegas Convention Center, has costume contests and fun planned with their "Wicked Fantasy." Or, if you're into something completely different, check out "Hullaween" at the Cox Pavillion. "Hullaween" promises to be crazy as hell, with live acts, a modern freak show, magic, and music by the String Cheese Incident. "Hullaween" looks to be scarier than the Neverland Ranch.

Or if you're into the rave scene, or looking for something for ages 18 and over, check out AWOL's Devil's Knight 6. AWOL has always done a great job keeping the underground pumping, and DK6 should be no different. Check out www.awolproductions.com for more info.

We end our little macabre party odyssey with a quick look at some more traditional, yet no less freaky, club events for Halloween night. First up, you've got the "Monster Ball" with DJ Jonathan Peters over at Ice. And over at Hard Rock, you've got Big Baby's' "Trick or Freak." I love when Hard Rock does Big Baby's—it's when they take Baby's and The Joint and combine them to make one giant superclub. They'll have costume contests, cash prizes, and music from DJs Dig Dug, Swizzle, and OB One. Plus, catch the evening's headliner, the one and only Mix Master Mike, formally of the Beastie Boys.

So there you have it my little boys and ghouls, your official Digital Tony Halloween preview. Now you're fully armed to take on all the ghosts, vampires, werewolves and zombies that Halloween has to offer. It's going to be a crazy, crazy night; be sure to pack your holy water and garlic!
