MYSTIC MONA: Luck’s Not a Lady

Couple’s lives take a nosedive in Vegas

Mona

Help, I need some advice. We recently moved here from Washington state, where we loved living. My husband was promised advancements and other great things to come down here and none have come to him so far. We have had nothing but bad luck financially and in other ways since we've been here, and we just want to go back to our home in Washington. If we move before a year, we'll owe the company the cost of the moving expenses (unless they decide to move us back). Is our luck going to turn around? Are we going to be able to move back to the place we love most? Will things work out financially for us?

DISPLACED LUCK

Dear DL,

I can see that all of this is putting a lot of stress on your relationship. The biggest reason you're here in Las Vegas is to learn the hard lesson of "checking the details." Your husband is a wonderful man and he's angrier with himself than he is with the company because he trusted the company. There is a major job change for your husband before July of this year.

Before that job change, I want him to make friends with the woman at work that is the "B" word and avoid the man with a temper. He'll know exactly who they are when you ask him to describe the people around him at work. The woman is someone he works with, reports to, or is a major client. I want him to use all his energy to make nice with her. She will help him make the situation tolerable until he leaves that job. Have him assume the role of follower and let others make the decisions for a while—a little go-with-the-flow action.

Also, although this is a difficult time in your lives, get to the point where you can see the humor in this situation. I frequently remind myself of this thought in challenging times: "If it's funny in five years, it's funny now."

By the way, I don't think you'll have to pay back the company anything since they did not keep their promises to your husband. Begin the process of having a discreet headhunter assist your man in finding another job; I'm thinking there's a competitor that would love to have him in their organization.

Keep reminding yourself that Las Vegas is a stepping-stone to something much better.

Employ, Ahoy!

I just had a question about my future employment. I just moved to Las Vegas about a month ago and I'm looking for a job, but haven't had any luck. Right now, I'm waiting for a phone call from someone who is supposed to call me for an interview, but it's been almost two weeks now. Will I find a job that I will enjoy and will make me happy?

WAITING FOR THE CALL

Dear Call Waiting,

I see you in a job within 10 days. But in order for that to happen you have to get in front of people. This is not a city where you can sit back and wait for things to happen.

Go to the staffing companies and tell them you're looking for a temp-to-hire position. Make sure you're getting the right kind of restful sleep—no oversleeping or under-sleeping; present your best self when you're out there meeting with people.

Write thank-you notes to everyone, even if you didn't get hired. Send grateful energy out there. You'll have good news by the 27th of March if you do what I suggest.

Sometimes They Write Back

February 19, 2004

My husband and I are wondering if we will have any children in the near future. We would appreciate any response.

C&K

February 22, 2004

Dear C&K,

Yes, I see a spirit working their way to the two of you. Please try to not worry so much about this issue. There are two problems that you and your husband worry about all the time. Together, take a piece of paper and write about what you worry about. Then crumple up the paper and go outside and burn it. The quicker you stop worrying, the quicker this spirit will enter your lives.

I'd like you to write this soul a letter: "Dear (whatever girl and boy name you have chosen), We want you in our lives." Write in the letter why you want this child and the gifts you'll offer. Both of you sign the letter and place it in a sacred place.

October looks good for conception, or you'll have news around October. Let me know what happens.

Thank you so much for your advice. Soon after my husband and I dealt out what we worry about most, and when we wrote our spirit letter, we found out we were pregnant. We are so excited. And even better, we are due November 18, 2004. Thanks again for your insight.
