Little girls can realize their fantasies at Generation-S-Girls

Those little eyes so helpless and appealing one day will flash and send you crashing through the ceiling.

Trend spotting

Nothing is more fun for little girls than playing dress up. Back in the day, with William's Costume Co. downtown—for years the only place to buy showgirl incidentals like feather boas and sparkly beads—too expensive, we were pacified with leftovers from mom's closet: large, ill-fitting dresses and rudimentary accessories that left a lot to the imagination.

These days, little girls can get their sparkly princess on without tripping over excess fabric and accessorize with affordable crowns and magic wands as retailers have started to sell kids' dress-up clothes in the regular clothes section, and not just for Halloween. Look for them at shops like Brats in the Fashion Show Mall and chains like Target.

The Review

As little girls grow up, so does their level of sophistication, along with a desire for that MTV lifestyle. But they are still not ready for a totally adult look.

Generation-S-Girls, a new boutique, limited salon and party center addresses this issue. Not only does it sell all kinds of fashion-forward yet age-appropriate clothing and accessories from Camp Beverly Hills, Submarine and One Step Up, but it's also a place where young ladies can have a good time together while learning a cheer or dance routine or practicing karaoke. For a $100, they can even make their own dance video by purchasing the She's a Video Princess package. A catwalk serves as a stage and runs through the center of the store.

Strip show veteran Stacy Noble, the creative genius behind Generation-S-Girls, opened her store because, "little girls need their own little place where they can do their own little thing."

Amen, sister.

Splurge

For $35, a little girl can be a Princess for a Day at Generation-S-Girls. The package includes a twisty hair-do with glitter, finger nails polished, make-up applied, a boa, a Generation-S-Girls T-shirt and a color photo. It's an ideal way to reward good grades.
