Could Go All The Way

Matt Jacob’s Fearless Football Picks

Matt Jacob

I was never strong in math. But I am astute enough to know that, except for baseball batting averages, 43 percent is a failing mark in every walk of life. Yet that's my winning percentage through the first two weeks of the season. Now, I could contend that I'd be 7-3 instead of 3-7 if not for a few bad breaks, but the truth is, Dan Rather has been more accurate than me. But a new week brings new hope, as well as a guarantee: a winning week, or drinks and lap dances are on me ... at Treasures!

49ers +11 at Seahawks Nobody is enjoying the 49ers' slide into oblivion more than me. However, they are 2-0 vs. the spread, losing twice by a combined five points. Seattle's also 2-0 vs. the spread (and straight-up), but the public is falling in love with this team, and the oddsmakers are compensating for it.

Vikings -9 vs. Bears A letdown game if I've ever spotted one, with the Bears coming off an upset victory at Green Bay. Meanwhile, after that Monday night debacle in Philly, the Vikings are going to be hungrier than an Olsen twin.

Raiders -3.5 vs. Bucs I never thought I'd see the day when I'd recommend laying points with a Norv Turner-coached team vs. a John Gruden-coached club. Then again, I never thought I'd see the day when an Oscar Goodman-led City Council would effectively close down a nudie bar.

Saints +7 vs. Rams Put it this way: I'd be more comfortable hiring Michael Jackson to baby-sit my kids than I would be giving away a touchdown with the crappy Rams.

Best Bet: Dolphins-Steelers under 34 points Miami's offense is awful, its defense is stout, the Steelers are starting a rookie QB (read: a ton of handoffs) ... if this game ends 0-0, I won't be shocked.

Last week: 1-4 (0-1 Best Bet)

Season: 3-7 (0-2 Best Bet)
