Are Ice and UNLV a match made in heaven? By Martin Stein

Martin Stein

More than 80 women showed up at Ice on Wednesday, August 10. That in itself is nothing unusual. But when all of those women have the same man in their sights ...

In conjunction with its Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo party, the metaclub also was raffling off its own European, Marketing Director and Brit Marc Jay. Interested women had to e-mail the club with what they would want with them if stranded on a deserted island with Marc. The winner was Ashley Miller, who replied that she'd want her two best friends, and get ready for it, cookie dough.

Picked in a blind draw by club staff, Ashley won a night at Mandalay Bay, a spa package at the property, dinner at Fleur de Lys, a pair of Gravure diamond earrings, a limo ride to Ice, champagne and flowers. And, of course, Jay's company.

It turned out to be a good choice since Ashley and Marc were already passing acquaintances.

Marc, who had previously complained about only running into party-type girls, was surprised by the turnout. "Actually, there was quite a lot of normal girls there," he says. "I didn't think these girls existed, so it was a huge compliment."

Marc had arrived back in Vegas from a Godskitchen event in London that night and the date took place that Friday to give him time to rest up.

"She was very, very nice," says Marc. "I've never been on a blind date ... but surprisingly, we had a lot to talk about."

"Marc Jay's fabulous," says Ashley, who was shocked with the win. Maintaining that Marc was "a complete gentleman" on the date, she called her dinner of champagne, veal and lobster salad fantastic.

"That restaurant was incredible," says Marc. "They did a fantastic job. The food was great and the company was even better."

After dinner, she and Marc hung out at the bar in The Hotel, talking about Marc's recent travels and her experiences at UNLV, where she's studying communications and public relations full time. Joining them were Ashley's two aforementioned friends, Alexis Glaser and Holly Cloward. "I think I won them over," says Marc. "Nothing crazy happened. We didn't go and have a huge foursome or anything like that."

"She's a very nice person and it was great to get to know her," says Marc.

Things evidently went well enough that the pair spent the next day lounging poolside at Mandalay, along with Alexis and Holly. The only thing missing was the cookie dough.

Ah yes, the cookie dough. What's up with that?

"It's quite funny because I always talk about how I make these cookies," explains Marc. "I like making cookies, so that's why she said that. Referring to Pillsbury Cookie Dough, he says, "Instead of making 12 cookies, there'd just be one huge one. I make mine as big as my oven, so I was telling her about that awhile ago." Including her two friends on the island, Marc says, was quite a nice thought, also.

Of course, the big Blind Date question is, are they going to see each other again?

"Yeah, I would like to," says Ashley. "I'm sure we will."

"It was a really very nice evening, and I think we're probably going to go out again," says Marc.

Sounds like we've got a match. I'm Roger Lodge, and we'll see you next time.
