SCREEN

SUPERCROSS

Benjamin Spacek

The promotional materials refer to the title of this thing as Supercross: The Movie. Call it what you will, but it's never a good sign when the press has to be convinced that what they're going to watch on screen is actually a motion picture. But I must admit they did the honest thing in dropping that last part for the final title.

Trip Carlyle is the wild and crazy motocross racer who likes to live life on the edge. His brother K.C. plays it safe. Sibling rivalry ensues and they both learn the value of taking risks and being responsible, just in time to win the championship race in Vegas.

Really, though, it's about revving engines, grinding gears and doing aerial stunts off dirt ramps. In case you're not impressed, the camera will go to slow motion at the peak of every jump. In between, we get shots of all the attractive women who are apparently really into this sort of thing.

At least former stunt coordinator-turned-director Boyum doesn't take things too seriously. He doesn't pretend to make it anything more than it is. It's a spectacular wreck, but that's the whole point.
