Curtains Come Down for Teatro

Ciao, Teatro! If you love Teatro Euro Bar's supple, red Ferrari-leather couches and the sexy sounds of DJ Digital Boy and friends, then kiss your martinis buona notte. MGM-Grand's lounge, said to resemble everything from a white-chocolate-covered cherry to a spaceship, is closing its doors Saturday. According to a former employee, the lounge "was not performing."

The official statement was sent out on April 5, stating only that the bar would be closed for remodeling and is expected to reopen in the summer—but we received the bat signal April 4 from an insider that the bar likely will not reopen as Teatro and will undergo a metamorphosis to become a hotel bar, open to the public, along the lines of Zuri.

The lounge also will change hands from the entertainment department to food and beverage control. Says Jenn Michaels, vice president of public relations for MGM-Mirage, "Remodeling Teatro gives us the opportunity to enlarge the space. We've found that we have great demand on property for additional bars, especially in that area of the resort which features many of the resort's most popular destinations," such as the hit Cirque show Ka along with the restaurant-lined Studio Walk.

Charged with designing the new space is famed architect Adam Tihany, who also designed the Forum Shops' Spago and New York City's Le Cirque.

Teatro has had problems attracting a large following since Day 1, undergoing several concept rethinks, including a short-lived cocktail cart service, champagne bar and finally, go-go dancers.

Our hunch has always been that the enclosed design has puzzled passersby, and we're guessing that at the top of the renovation list will be cracking the shell and opening the interior up to the casino floor.

Show Miami Some Vegas Love

Seamless is the little strip club that could, as its after-hours continues to grow and attract top-name DJ talent. Continuing the upward arc will be its introduction of South Beach's legendary Fat Black Pussycat Party beginning May 1 and happening the first Monday of every month afterward. Opening will be Florida's Babalu Bad Boyz and DJ Joel.

Inside tip: Come dressed in black and get half off your cover charge. Spend it on drinks or for tipping the more exotic dancers in the back room.
