The Weekly Does the Math

Last month, George Strait hit No. 1 on the country singles chart for the 52nd time, with "She Let Herself Go." If that feat doesn't sound impressive, consider that Strait has reached the top spot on a chart more often than many artists combined.

Elvis Presley (27) + Johnny Cash (14) = 41

The Beatles (30) + The Rolling Stones (13) + The Who (1) = 44

Mariah Carey (26) + Whitney Houston (24) = 50

Dolly Parton (21) + Loretta Lynn (16) = 37

Michael Jackson (21) + Prince (12) = 33

Madonna (41) + Christina Aguilera (6) + Britney Spears (4) = 51

Garth Brooks (17) + Toby Keith (15) + Kenny Chesney (7) = 39

Slaughter + The Killers + Panic! At the Disco + 52 = 52

Flyleaf

Flyleaf (2.5 stars)

From the first track on Flyleaf's debut, "I'm So Sick," you'd expect them to be an aggressive, female-fronted metal band in the vein of Otep or My Ruin. But the rest of the album reveals them as more like the distaff version of 3 Doors Down or Nickelback, with boring, mid-tempo hard-rock and even an awful power ballad ("There For You"). Which makes them the perfect act to open for Seether.

Mack

Mack (1.5 stars)

I'm reviewing this, I told my son. "What do you think?" He listened for a moment. The moderately heavy but not heavy-heavy guitars, the shouting. "Bleh," he said. Hmm. I was gonna go with this year's contender for the title of The New Foghat, even if it's fronted by Rollins Band drumer Jason Mackenroth ... but the kid's got a point. "Can I quote you on that?" I asked.
