Mash-Up

Oh Gee!

On the Olympic Room's stage, a central support column makes things a wee bit crowded when combined with two poles, but the dancers at Wednesday's grand re-opening managed to make creative use of the obstruction. Circling the room are nine recessed booths, while tables with white cloths fill the floor. While seating hasn't been increased, the removal of the old satellite stages gives the Olympic Room a nice, open feeling.

A Romanesque fountain separates the Garden Room from the main entry area, and the changes there are even more impressive, with a grand total of 17 VIP booths, one large enough to seat 12 to 15 laps comfortably. Next up for a make-over is the VIP room adjacent to the Garden Room, followed by upstairs, where women get to enjoy men dancing for them for a change.

Give a Hoot

We've been fans of the Hooters Hotel's 13 Martini Bar since the place opened, and now it's gotten even better. Tuesdays are industry nights with two-for-one drink specials from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Wednesdays are ladies nights when women drink free from 9 p.m. to midnight. Regular happy hours are 4 to 7 p.m. and 1 to 4 a.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday through Monday during football season, the entire property offers discounts on beer and booze, with The Point 97.1-FM broadcasting live Sundays, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and giving away prizes that include the chance to win $10,000 each week. When you're done with all that (and if you're still able to walk), head over the blackjack tables and say hi to Miss Hooters International 2006, Michelle Nunes.

Vegas' Newest Exports

In LA and missing the sights of home? Head down to Ivan Kane's original Forty Deuce and catch one of the Vegas headliners who have been making the trip down the 15 to enliven the joint, such as Carolyn Pace and Dakota Ferriero, with Anna O'Keefe and Sheila Joy appearing soon. The Californian incarnation is at 5574 Melrose Avenue in Hollywood.

Cocktail O' The Week

Tidal Wave

Mermaid Restaurant — Lounge, $7

Ingredients

1 ounce Grey Goose Vodka

1 ounce Bacardi Rum

1 ounce Tanqueray Gin

0.5 ounces Blue Curacao

3 ounces Red Bull

Splash of Sierra Mist

Splash of sweet and sour

Shake all ingredients except soda and sweet and sour. Add soda and sweet and sour and shake. Strain and garnish with lemon twist.

Do three ounces of hard liquor cancel out three ounces of Red Bull? The only way to know is to find yourself a comfy seat at the Silverton's otherworldly Mermaid Lounge and try a few for yourself. If the room starts swimming along with the fish, you'll have your answer.
