Nights on the Circuit: Where the Runway Meets the DJ

Talulah G and C-Level bring the club to the boutique

Wednesday, November 8, 9:45 p.m. Alone again, naturally. And where to find solace, distraction, succor? Like many women, I could choose retail therapy-always a crowd-pleaser. I could crawl inside a bottle of champagne, letting the sweetness of a tall, blond glass mingle with the salt of one or two plump tears. But I'm neither a sex columnist nor a romance novelist. As a confirmed creature of the night, I'm far more likely to dissolve into the crowd at a packed nightclub, to sway with the dancers in the House Room at Jet or just park myself under the DJ balcony at Tryst and let the mash-ups cut and paste my heart back together in a way that only makes sense to other nightcrawlers.

Still, I do enjoy shopping, nightclubs and the melodic result of a cluster of ladies clinking glasses together in a toast "to us!" If there's a way to enjoy fashion, libation and aural stimulation at one time, I'll be there faster than a DJ can flick a switch. Fortunately for me-unfortunately for my credit cards-that dream comes true the first Monday and Wednesday of every month when two popular boutiques establish a club vibe in-store to better serve and entertain the frockstars of the fashionable nightlife crowd.

The music is still blaring late in the evening at Edith Castillo's C-Level boutique in Boca Park, though the party technically started at 6 p.m. The sounds of DJ Michael Toast rain down on us from the store's second-floor loft, also home to Castillo's casual collections and a big billiards table. It's the first Wednesday of the month and that, at C-Level, is a cause célèbre. The gracious hostess is doling out drinks, ringing up purchases and hand-selecting items from among the racks of designer club and cocktail wear to suit her best clients. Guys and girls hot enough to be models-if they aren't already-try on this and that, playfully strutting an imaginary catwalk. In the corner, a PlayStation 2 has been set up for little shoppers and for men to relax with while Edith's loyal ladies dart in and out of the spacious dressing rooms. I get caught up in the scene and splurge on a sassy $56 T-shirt by Doe, one that will certainly mock the other tees in my closet for not having come wrapped in tissue or been toted in a stylish bag.

Earlier in the week, another party was going off at the Fashion Show Mall long past closing time. Talulah G's Meital Grantz did a similar dance, keeping her industry guests happy with champagne, cheese and crackers while showing them gems from her stable of New York, LA, Paris and Milan designers in what she calls a "boutique shopping experience." Each event features a male and a female host-notable industry professionals such as Jake Saady and Jodi Myers of the Light Group, who tonight are chatting up the guests and helping to establish the nightlife connection.

If you take your fashion with a twist of nightlife, visit Talulah G and C-Level, of course, but also check out the grand opening of Black Satin Intimates at Wynn Las Vegas on Tuesday, November 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., and enjoy the musical stylings of Vegas Magazine's own Michael Shulman while you shop and cocktail. Stores like Intermix and DKNY at the Forum Shops have also hosted in-store events where portions of the evening's proceeds benefit a worthy cause. On December 8, Talulah G will host New York designer Yigal Azrouel's spring preview for the Greater Las Vegas Academy of All Stars.

On the other hand, if you like your clubbing with a splash of high fashion, Indulge Fridays at Body English bring the boutique shopping experience to the nightclub. Already, loyal local ladies have snagged $10,000 worth of B. Johnson handbags by Betsey Johnson and another $10,000 worth by Charlie Lapson. Friday, November 24, Indulge welcomes Carlos Santana Shoes, and December 8, Hipster Handbags. Just in time for the holidays, on December 14, Talulah G will host an evening for men to consult with personal shoppers and pick out just the right It gift for their wife or girlfriend.

Now if only martinis were served with massages ...
