Ra Reborn … Kinda

Buying a ticket to the Luxor’s Spotlight Series comes with an extra bonus: free entry to the Ra concert after-party. The parties have almost everything you’d expect from a nightclub, with a DJ, cocktails, go-go dancers ... and no reserved tables. The one catch: it ain’t in Ra, Luxor’s now-closed club. That would put a kink in the ongoing reconstruction making room for LAX and the Roxy. Instead, it’s in the theater’s lobby area. If you just want to hit the party without enjoying the sounds of a musical Jim Belushi, admission can be had for 10 bucks.

Drink and Drive

A new party-bus company in town, Nite Tours, is having a locals appreciation night on Friday, October 13. Cost is just $25 a person, down from the regular $89, and includes a variety of stops, no waiting in line, free drinks on the 42-seat trolley and the company of the Nite Tour Naughty Girls serving upside-down margarita shots. Tentative stops are Voodoo, Beacher’s Rockhouse, Cherry (sure, it’s a long drive but that’s where the onboard drinks come in handy) and Jet, before returning back to Voodoo. RSVP by 6 p.m. Thursday, October 12, at 877-6483 or

We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Bottles

A while back we reported that Pure was the only club to have martini shakers available with bottle service. Our faces are as red as a maraschino cherry because Rumjungle also offers them, a godsend to those of us who refuse to give up our James Bond fixations.

As if being able to provide martinis, cosmos and other shaken delicacies wasn’t enough, the restaurant-club also has a couple of other variations on bottle service. The Shot Bar comes with all the ingredients needed to mix up B-52s, Orgasms (both the silent and Screaming types), Navels (Fuzzy and Hairy—no comment), Kamikazes, Mudslides, Russians (Black and White but no Red) and Mind Erasers—though we imagine those aren’t needed if all of the aforementioned are knocked back.

The Long Island Ice Teas order comes with the usual suspects but with extra mixers like energy drinks, water and colas.

And Now a Coda

We really don’t think we’ve got a lot of sway in town but we’ll wax delusional for a moment as we report that the newly opened Moon nightclub at the Palms also offers martini shakers with its bottle service. We’ll take the credit as we debate where to direct our powers next.

Cocktail O' The Week

Pama Shade

Sushi Roku, $12

Ingredients

1 ounce Malibu Rum Liqueur

0.75 ounces Pama Pomegranate Liqueur

0.75 ounces lemon sour

0.25 ounces ginger vanilla syrup

5-7 mint leaves

Muddle mint with syrup. Add other ingredients, shake and strain. Garnish with mint sprigs.

Pama is doing its best to make pomegranate-flavored cocktails the new black, and the liqueur’s balance of sweetness and tartness is certainly helping. The ginger vanilla syrup is a great accent for sushi. Just be careful not to swallow any seeds or you’ll have to do some time in Hades.
