Get Your Rum On

Our Face is Rouge

We got so caught up with our annual nightlife issue and the insanity that’s Labor Day, we forgot to give a nod to the opening of Rouge, occupying Teatro’s old footprint. We broke the news about the name and furnishings back in July and were happy to see the Ferrari leather seats full of happy patrons enjoying the Adam Tihany-designed bottle wall when we swung by last month. Maybe now the MGM Grand will bring back those cocktail carts.

Take That, California

A showgirl headdress nod to New York which, in a recent Forbes online poll, tied with us for American cities with the best nightlife, each getting 18 percent of the vote. We all know which of the two is the true 24-hour town, of course. San Francisco and LA barely registered, each getting three percent.

Rock the Forum

New York’s DJ Theo is sneaking into town for the Billboard Dance Music Summit, but you won’t find him at any clubs. Instead, he’ll be at the Armani Exchange in the Forum Shops, Tuesday and Wednesday, spinning from 2-6 p.m. Back in the City, Theo, whose new album NYC Mixx dropped September 12, is a headliner at Pacha and a regular in the Hamptons, with fans including Tommy Lee and Jenna Jameson. You, of course, can hear him for free.

Kick Off Your Week the Right Way

Mandalay Bay unveils its Mandalay Mondays this—you guessed it—Monday. Pick up a pass card at OBA, Ivan Kane’s Forty Deuce, Mix or Rumjungle and get VIP line access, free admission and select two-for-one drinks at the four nightspots. Women will even get to drink free from 10 p.m. to midnight. The MGM Grand tried the same promotion a while back on Tuesdays, offering access to Tabú, Studio 54 and the now-shuttered Teatro. With the change of days and four venues vs. three, Mandalay might have found the secret to success.

“If you are not on the list, don’t blow your chances by trying to slick talk the doorman—just get in the damn line and wait your turn.”

—Glenn Belverio, co-author with Thomas Onorato of Confessions From the Velvet Ropes, giving Vegas club tips in the Hartford Courant.

COCKTAIL O' THE WEEK

Tangerine Mojito

Tangerine, $12

Ingredients

2 ounces Montecristo Rum

0.75 ounces rock candy syrup

2 ounces soda water

1 tbsp. canned tangerine slices

4-5 lime wedges

7-10 fresh mint leaves

Place mint, limes, syrup and tangerines into shaker and muddle. Add ice, rum and soda and pour into Collins glass. Garnish with sugarcane stick and mint.

While leaves are turning in the rest of the country, it’s still summer in Vegas and that means it’s still time for mojitos—especially when they’re sweetened up with oranges.
