Screening the ‘80s

Eighties revivalism, mostly deplorable in music and fashion, is less terrible when it comes to movies. (Never mind that they’re filled with deplorable ’80s music and fashion.) A sweet and funny film like Sixteen Candles lives on, still oddly relevant (had the film been released now, Long Duk Dong’s exasperated cry, “No more yankie my wankie,” would no doubt be taken up by war protestors as a grabby anti-Bush slogan). So the Library District is showing a quartet of iconic movies from the era, Saturdays at 2 p.m. in the Sahara West multipurpose room.

August 4: Sixteen Candles

August 11: The Goonies

August 18: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

August 25: The Princess Bride
