Richard Abowitz on Pop Culture

It is rare that no one believes Vegas gossip. Usually, there is some local wag willing to pass on almost any story. Certainly the national press is lapping up the alleged romance between magician Hans Klok and his far more famous assistant, Pam Anderson. In recent days, it has sparked more attention than their show at Planet Hollywood. The ultimate contemporary bastion of celebrity gossip, TMZ.com, has an item on the possible romance. Recent stories have appeared in publications in Ireland, Malaysia and India. Yet, locally, I can't find a single reporter who offers any credence to the story. Maybe it is because Anderson has been seen publicly romancing ex-husband Tommy Lee throughout the summer. Or maybe it is because locals, being so close to the scene, acutely notice the stature gap between the two blondes: one famous and the other the ostensible headliner. Norm Clarke posted a typical report in the Review-Journal today:

"There's a ton of Internet buzz about Pamela Anderson and magician Hans Klok getting frisky in the waiting room before their appearance on Craig Ferguson's CBS late-night show last week. The consensus: It's a shameless publicity stunt."

Any other theories?
