LA Comedy Club Opens at Palace Station Casino

"The Number One comedy club for locals" is how the announcer-voice described Palace Station's new LA Comedy Club.  "F**k the Bellagio; who needs all that...nice shit?" is how comic Peter Berman put it. Berman, who also noted the former Laugh Trax's provision of two different on-stage stools, headlines this week, the club's third. Hosting/featuring is KT Tatara.  A two-touring-comic show is evidently going to be the norm, and though I'd never seen it done before myself, it didn't noticeably hurt the energy or flow.

Housed in the casino's Showroom, the club seats 150 at small tables in a forward-facing semi-circle. Nice black backdrop (no neon signs or goofy headshots/illustrations/murals here); booths against the back walls; dark, polished wood; pretty classy overall.

While not *quite* a B room, it's got potential, providing the Maxim Comedy Club veterans of Bill Voelkner Productions (Mac King, Dirty: Hypnosis Unleashed, Vinnie Favorito) can in fact, as the official press release boasts, bring in "top-notch comedians...of headlining caliber." It's nice to have an off-Strip option, but if the crowd is going to consist of 90 percent octogenarians shuffling in out of curiosity/boredom (or for a dark spot to take a nap), Mr. announcer-voice will soon have to fine-tune his script.

Peter Berman and KT Tatara, August 20-26. John Bizarre and the duo O'Brien & Valdez, August 26-September 2. 7 and 9 p.m. nightly, $24.95 tickets include two drinks or a Feast Buffet freebie (must be redeemed within seven days), 574-5300.
