Deep Throat finds love in Kazakhstan

Aaron Thompson

-----> What do you do when your cult-classic piece of porno is wanted at a Kazakh film festival? If you’re Raymond Pistol, owner of Arrow Productions, a local classic erotic film company, you send the film across the Atlantic.

Pistol’s classic 1972 smut film Deep Throat was selected to be screened at the Almaty Film Festival this September in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

“[The Festival organizers] e-mailed me for the film. I didn’t really believe it,” Pistol says. “[Kazakhstan] is a Muslim state. So them requesting it is amazing to me. ”

The 61-minute film is considered the first commercial porno, with its heroine, played by the late Linda Lovelace, doing whatever it takes to “untangle her tingle.”

“We gave them a choice for the R-rated version, but they wanted the film as is,” Pistol says.

The film also has appeared in Canada, Australia and Brazil.

“It’s definitely become a part of international pop culture.” To wit: A new Deep Throat energy drink was recently tested around the nation and should hit stores this fall. It tastes, oddly enough, like green apples.
