See a wicked show. If dark and theatrical is your thing but Phantom of the Opera is not, perhaps some black metal will tickle your fancy. Nordic mystics Dimmu Borgir are touring in support of their latest, In Sorte Diaboli (in English: “In a Deal With Satan”), along with Unearth, DevilDriver, and Kataklysm. May 16, House of Blues, 5:50 p.m., $20 and up. 632-7600.

Let it all hang out. Off the Primm exit on I-15, around a bend where the road ends, across the train tracks and down a dirt road you’ll find Dark Skies’ Singularity Event, Southern Nevada’s four-day answer to Burning Man: art to your heart’s content, pancakes, barbecues, community radio, dream interpretation, naked tiki bar, alien technology, vortex travel, karaoke, puppets, enough sweat to water the lawns for a week this summer and handy on-site newsletter to keep you posted on what you missed when you were whacked out on goofballs. May 17-20. $125 at the gate. See darkskies.vegasartists.com for more.

Bring your Mom to the club. Moms are party people, too! This Sunday, May 13, two popular hotspots will be honoring mothers—and future mothers—with parties that everyone can appreciate and as only Vegas can. Daytime, Rehab hosts the M.I.L.F.S. (Mothers In Lingerie Feeling Sexy) party at the Hard Rock Pool with the ladies of Club Paradise. Later that night, Light will host their fifth annual MILF Mother’s Day party as well with DJ Crooked. Word to your mother.

Celebrate chicks. Las Vegas’ WorldFolk Foundation pays tribute with GirlFest, a four-day festival featuring women musicians, dancers, artists, poets and comedians. No female-fronted bands on this menu; we’re talking all ladies, all the time! It’s open to all ages and free to the public, so as mom might say, you’ve got no excuse for missing it. May 11, 5-8 p.m., Hennessey’s (425 Fremont St.). May 12, 7-10 p.m., Borders (2190 Rainbow Blvd.). May 13, 4-7 p.m., Bruce Trent Park (8851 Vegas Drive). May 14, 4-8:30 p.m., Clark County Library (1401 E. Flamingo Road). www.worldfok.com/lvgirlfest.html

Watch cartoons. Boulder City is a bit of a drive, so it’s nice and convenient that the Dam Short Film Festival is bringing its monthly short-film screening a little closer to town. This month’s program features cartoons that range from the surreal to the cute (and sometimes both at once). May 11 at 8 p.m. at the Art Institute of Las Vegas in Henderson. Admission is $5.
