Think Tom Petty with a higher range and fewer choruses. Or an early Wilco, had its members, like Hymns, originally hailed from North Carolina. Alternately clap-happy and subdued, the NYC foursome combine the best of indie introspection, SoCal folk and Texas ramble. If only it didn’t sound like they were boring themselves silly. –JS
