The four-movie day

Josh Bell

This is what you imagine attending a film festival should be like: seeing four movies in one day, with only short breaks to eat poorly and check email. I had that ideal festival experience today, which of course would have been slightly improved had any of the movies I saw (aside from one work-in-progress starring a certain Las Vegas Weekly cover subject that I'm not allowed to comment on) been any good. But failed experiments (Look, the movie shot from the perspective of surveillance cameras), ponderous literary adaptations (All God's Children Can Dance, from a Haruki Murakami short story) and incomprehensible foreign erotic dramas (Once Upon a Time Maria) are all part of the archetypal festival experience, too. - Josh Bell
