The Weekly playlist: Policing dark Waters

Dark Side of the Moon, allow us to introduce you to Synchronicity. “Roxanne,” meet “Money.” In a span of 24 hours the MGM Grand Garden Arena stage will support the esteemed feet of not only reunited Police men Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland but also ex-Pink Floyd general Roger Waters. We dig deep through their catalogs, for the gems that’ll have you drooling at—and possibly scalping for—a chance to see both.

The Police, “Fall Out” (single, 1977) Sting should be required to listen to the punky workout five times before hitting the stage each night.

Roger Waters, “Let There Be More Light” (Pink Floyd’s A Saucerful of Secrets, 1968) Check Roger’s killer opening bassline.

The Police, “Born in the 50’s” (Outlandos d’Amour, 1978) The loudest history lesson you’ll ever get.

Roger Waters, “If” (Pink Floyd’s Atom Heart Mother, 1970) “If I were a rule, I would bend/If I were a good man, I’d understand the spaces between friends.” Lyrics make the man.

The Police, “The Bed’s Too Big Without You” (Reggatta de Blanc, 1979) A little Police reggae goes a long way

Roger Waters, “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” (Pink Floyd’s Animals, 1977) We love Dave’s guitar, but Roger was clearly the brains behind Floyd’s operation.

The Police, “Man in a Suitcase” (Zenyatta Mondatta, 1980) “I’ll invite you back to my place/It’s only mine because it holds my suitcase.” Simple pop perfection.

Roger Waters, “Two Suns in the Sunset” (Pink Floyd’s A Final Cut, 1983) And you thought Dark Side was frightening

The Police, “Synchronicity I” (Synchronicity, 1983) The should-be nightly opener along the reunion tour.

Roger Waters, “Amused to Death” (Amused to Death, 1992) Don’t ignore Waters’ solo discography, or you’ll lose the thread. – SP
