Nightlife

BEYOND THE ROPE: Jaime Preston

Hometown: Salt Lake City, Utah Age: 30 Profession: Lead Singer, Las Vegas Pussycat Dolls Profile: A dancer since the age of 2, and a singer for the last eight years, Preston was a sultry Siren of TI when she heard that Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin was forming a Vegas troupe. Now, she struts her stuff and feeds off of the crowd’s energy twice nightly, five nights a week, with her six fellow Dolls, belting out her favorites, Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” Why I Do What I Do: “Singing and dancing is my passion, and I’m just following that. I’ve been dancing my whole life; I don’t know what I’d do without it. And singing is a way to express myself. There’s no other way that would fulfill me as much.” Personal Tidbit: No party animal, Preston prefers a good movie and the company of her two dogs Jackson and Aaliyah to the clubs. Except, that is, for Saturdays, when she and some of the Dolls take on Pure after their performances. Last book read: Do You!, by Russell Simmons Latest Accomplishment: Smart as well as beautiful, Preston recently went back to school, getting her feet wet with general studies but with a greater interest in business and psychology. She’s also learning to play the guitar so that she can soon write and perform her own music. Quote: “Follow your bliss.” –Joseph Campbell
