INGREDIENTS:
1 oz. Hpnotiq
1 oz. orange-flavored rum
1/4 oz. Triple Sec
Splash pineapple juice
Garnish with fresh orange wedge
The thing about Hpnotiq is that if you try to do too much with it, you end up with a kitchen sink of flavors that ruins the point of using a blended liqueur—it doesn’t need much. However, by itself it can be pervasively sweet. Part of the reason for both is that the French spirit is already blended with its own set of fine ingredients, using vodka, cognac and tropical fruits, so balance is essential. The Hpnotized cocktail has done a fine job of deflecting any cloying, as the citrus-based elements provide just enough acidity for a tasty equilibrium.
