Fact-checking the county’s media watchdog

Damon Hodge

In January, the county began media criticism with Setting the Record Straight,  www.co.clark.nv.us/Public_communications/record_straight.htm, which “challenges inaccurate, misleading and false information in ... news media.”

On January 29, they reported: “At least three local media have mistakenly included Clark County in a list of local governments facing potential budgetary woes ...”

Since then, nothing.

So, Erik Pappa (county spokesman), does that mean the media is doing well? “We use this page sparingly because the media mostly gets the story right ... The web page is sort of the last straw at correcting egregious errors, something we’ve not had to resort to in some time.”

Whew. Not like the county has ever made egregious errors, like a Regional Justice Center that opened four years late and tens of millions of dollars over budget. Or a University Medical Center that bled  more than $18 million.
