Gwen vs Lauryn

We make the call

Spencer Patterson

THE SCENARIO
You’re having trouble picking between two of modern music’s fabulous females, Gwen Stefani and Lauryn Hill, who are scheduled to perform at the same time some 13 miles apart Saturday night.
THE SHOWDOWN
Since her earliest days with No Doubt, Stefani has been a dependable, pop-star crowd-pleaser. Guys like to look at her, girls wanna sing, dance and dress like her, and her shows are never lacking for spirit. Hill, once the brightest star on the hip-hop/neo-soul horizon, has all but disappeared from sight, going nine years without a studio album and performing only sporadically. In February, Hill stood up a Vegas club filled with expectant fans, issuing not so much as a website apology for her no-show.
THE PICK
Through gritted teeth, Lauryn. Sure, sure, fool us twice shame on us and all that, but the opportunity to actually hear and see the reclusive Hill onstage trumps another chance to see semi-frequent Vegas performer Stefani. It might not be a bad idea to bring a pillow to Red Rock, though, as it could make for a very long night. Just hopefully one with a happy ending this time. –SP
