On April 17, the Aladdin Casino and Resort will change its name to the Planet Hollywood Hotel in an attempt to reinvigorate the historically struggling Strip property. But were there other schemes the Aladdin execs could have tried?
• Planet Dollywood: Will require two large additions to the property, but it could become a solid draw for country music fans and drag queens.
• Death Valley Ranch: Relax by the heat-induced mirage of the pool and trek through the endless amounts of “real live” desert landscaping within the casino.
• Condo Universe: Outside, it looks like an apartment tower. Inside, faux condo balconies hang over the gambling pits, staffed by well-dressed glamorati who don’t plan on staying long.
