Reincarnation

John Katsilometes

The perimeter of Skinny Dugan’s has been reduced to rubble, which some longtime frequenters of the old sports bar on West Charleston Boulevard might consider an improvement. The bar, a favorite of fans of the New York Jets and Giants and Nebraska Cornhuskers football teams, had shown some wear and tear over the past several years (there seemed no point in replacing tabletops whose finish had been worn through after generations of elbow work). But the establishment has a future, as Skinny’s was purchased last fall by Del Mar, California, developers Fred Gluckman and Margot Aiken from brothers Fred and Bob Keck, who had owned the pub since 1973. The plan is for an upscale-yet-retro dinner-and-gaming club that will bring back memories of Embers, which is how the business began as one of the premier steakhouses in the city in the 1960s. No reopening date has been officially announced, but workers are saying January is likely.
