Replacements: The new breakfast joint . . .

John Katsilometes

The Great Defection from the Coffee Pub on West Sahara Avenue has served as the seedling for a new café that has the Pub’s old charm—and most of its staff. In its second month of operation is Beach Café, which is owned and operated by longtime Coffee Pub manager Robyn Bradley; her husband, Scott; and Robyn’s brother, Kevin Aivaz. Under the ownership of Marty Brees, the Coffee Pub was one of the more popular Vegas power-lunch locales, known for its centralized location (just west of Interstate 15 across from Palace Station), reliably good food and prompt service from a charming staff. Hordes of politicos and movers-n-shakers slurped coffee and ate bacon there; it was the insiders’ breakfast hub.

But the Coffee Pub has struggled to maintain that reputation since Brees sold the restaurant a year and a half ago (today he owns the chain Juice Bars, the power-shake-serving walk-ups that are in place at Las Vegas Athletic Clubs throughout the valley). Meanwhile, across town, the Beach Café, home to eight former Coffee Pub employees, is busy enough to have extended its hours, which are 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The restaurant is decorated in a breezy beach atmosphere and is located at 7750 S. Jones Blvd., at Robindale Road between Interstate 215 and Blue Diamond Road.
