Cocktail Of The Week

Domaine Calot Morgon Beaujolais Nouveau Vox Wine Lounge $42

Xania Woodman

All right, so it’s not a cocktail per se, but the Domaine Calot Morgon selected by Vox Sommelier Patrick Pretz will have a prized place on the table and in the glass as we toast fall and Thanksgiving. It also pairs better with turkey and all the trimmings than a dry martini. A delicate red wine made from hand-picked Gamay grapes and produced in the Beaujolais region of France, Beaujolais Nouveau is, by French law, fermented for just a few weeks and then officially released for sale on the third Thursday of November (this year, the 15th). It traditionally is used to celebrate the end of the harvest season. Domaine Calot Morgon is a true Beaujolais, grown from 100-year-old vines and meant to be enjoyed slightly chilled at 55 degrees. It is said that Monsieur Jean Calot plays music to his wine while it ferments, with vintages sometimes calling for Michael Jackson, sometimes for classical music.
