Why you shouidn’t buy Shalom Auslander’s book. By Shalom Auslander.

Me and God go way back. We met when I was a small boy, and He was an old angry man. I’m sure you’ve heard the stories: floods, famines, furious vengeance. Foreskin’s Lament (October, Riverhead Books) is a memoir of my life with Him, sort of like Marley and Me, only with a violent omnipotent pit bull. I’m pretty sure God’s going to kill me for writing this book, and you for reading it. Don’t get me wrong—if you do read it, I think you’ll enjoy it, and I think it will make you think. I’m just saying: If God kicks in your front door in a few weeks, you’re on your own.

Shalom Auslander is the author of Beware of God: Stories. His work has appeared in Esquire and on NPR’s This American Life.
