Even Maher where that came from …

Yes, it’s an election year, and HBO staple Real with Time Bill Maher has never been more vital or relevant. But before the comic/author/burgeoning filmmaker (check out Religulous this June) gets into all that this weekend, let’s just take a moment to appreciate a few of his contributions to the 2006 documentary Fuck:

“It’s the ultimate bad word, you know. It has so many multiple uses, and it’s so good to say. It’s so cathartic when it comes out of your mouth.

“It’s one of the great luxuries of my life that I can go around this country as I do, doing stand-up, and I never have to think twice about anything I say. The debt that

I owe [Lenny Bruce] is enormous. A lot of people can be funny. He was brave.

“There’s no people who understand Jesus less than these Christians in America today, the ones who pretend to speak in his name. Jesus said very little about anything that they’re all up in arms about. If they would just stick to what he said, we’d all be better off, if people actually acted like him. These people need to go away.

“I saw an article last week in the paper that said kids are bored with porn—12-, 13-year-old kids. The idea that you’d be bored with porn at that age, when there’s kids starving for it in China …

“There is free speech, but you always have to fight for it … It’s still a good place, because you can win the battle.”
