Mash-Up

So … what’s new?

With Memorial Day weekend just around the corner, it’s as good as summer in Vegas, and nightclub think-tanks all around town are thinking one thing: new! So grab your calendar and take note:

Thursday has been receiving special attention lately. Beginning this week, Jet opens its doors on Thursdays with all locals enjoying no cover on this new night. Also this Thursday, Ghostbar launches a new weekly event, the Hawaiian import Less Than Zero ’80s night, with DJs Mike Licata, Shoe and Mark Stylz. A few other events have already started and are building a following, such as Drai’s new Thursday After Life industry afterhours. There, DJ Jack Lafleur is at the helm in the main room while DJs battle it out in the hip-hop room till dawn. The Bank’s new Thursday house night Sessions brings in guest DJs weekly and keeps the focus off of gimmicky contests, and on the music.

Speaking of Thursdays and gimmicky contests, McFadden’s Irish Pub at the Rio tackles both with Brewfest Thursdays, a night honoring all that is brewed, with beer pong, flip cup (Wow! That takes us back …) and other games. Beer pong can also be enjoyed at five PT’s Pub locations nightly at 7 p.m. Or if you prefer live music to sports, Rumjungle will debut One Love Sundays this weekend, featuring live reggae with Bonafide weekly and just a $10 cover. Ago at the Hard Rock presents Jeremy Cornwell live every Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m.-1 a.m. outside on the “Tierra,” and Downtown, Tarnished Saturdays at the Brass Lounge will satisfy any indie-punk-electro cravings.

And we still have lots to look forward to! Sugarcane Ultralounge will finally open at the Palazzo Shoppes in the first week of June. The Artisan will once again host a pool party at its tiny oasis pool, a rather European/Mediterranean affair with down-tempo, soul, breaks and deep-house sounds. Red Rock Retreat starts back up on June 1, and this year will incorporate industry folk from other markets.

Maybe great minds think alike, because two events will just have to share the same name this summer, after both the Flamingo and the new R.E. Tapas decided upon the name “Relapse” for their newest ventures. A tale of two parties: The Relapse pool party will go off every Monday from noon-6 p.m. at the Flamingo’s Gold Pool, with DJs, drink specials and even a floating stripper pole. R.E.’s RElapse Tuesday industry and ladies’ night features two-for-one drinks and three-for-two tapas from 8 p.m.-midnight. So, clearly quite different. Just don’t wear your swimsuit to the restaurant by accident!
