Hangar 24’s line of California brews touches down in Nevada

The craft beer scene in Nevada just got a little more interesting with the arrival of Hangar 24, a Redlands, California-based brewery that began selling its products here in April. ¶ Hangar 24 is well-known by beer aficionados for both its high quality and mind-boggling selection, and most of its flagship, year-round beers are currently available at a liquor store near you: Orange Wheat, Amarillo Pale Ale, Alt-Bier, Chocolate Porter, Columbus IPA, Helles Lager and Double IPA. We’ve had the chance to sample most of them, and here are a few of our takeaways:

    • Amarillo Pale Ale

Arguably the best of the bunch, this is a crisp, anytime-of-the-day beer that delivers a delicious, non-threatening 5.5 percent ABV kick.

    • Orange Wheat

A bit more subdued than the pale ale, it has a mellow undercarriage that makes a great companion for that summer barbecue. And at 4.6 percent ABV, have more than one.

    • Alt-Bier

This one was a bit polarizing. We liked its drinkability, especially at 6 percent ABV, but there’s not much body to it. It feels ... thin. Definitely a beer to try before you buy.

    • Chocolate Porter

With triple digits fully upon us, we’d skip this extremely heavy, 8 percent ABV beer—for now. Buy a bottle and wait until October.
