He’s called The Big Cat for a few reasons. Peep the social networks of Ivan Ramos Salinas—aka Coyu—and you’ll quickly discover he’s an ardent feline fan. But further nosing around will unearth a slew of underground house tracks that—like their creator—are on the cusp of a much bigger audience.

Coyu’s profile has been ascending rapidly the past few years since emerging from his native Barcelona thanks to the big-name support of both his productions and record label (Suara), as well as the eagerness of global promoters to bring him to their clubs. And why wouldn’t they, with songs as alluring (and versatile) as “Profound Pleasure” (with Cari Golden), his minimal and Mediterranean take on Who Da Funk’s 2002 hit “Shiny Disco Balls,” and his recent go at Green Velvet’s cheeky “Bigger Than Prince”—to say nothing of current Beatport tech house No. 1, the Bontan remix of his “1, 2, 3...Fire” (with Ramiro Lopez)?

Those are just a few of the hypnotic solo tracks, remixes and collaborations Coyu will hopefully play during his Las Vegas debut on Friday.

And about those cats: Why does he posts more kitty pics than Deadmau5 and the ASPCA combined? He started a foundation to help stray and sick felines. Which is another reason to check Coyu out: It’s good to know your cover charge is more likely to save some kitties than fund a DJ’s coke habit.

Coyu With Edgar Reyes, Eder More, Pedro Flores, Bad Beat, Spacebyrdz and AP & St. JP. October 3, doors at 9 p.m., $20. Artistic Armory, 702-574-9005.
