With its golden lanterns floating into the desert sky, the Rise Festival has always been about hope, release and new beginnings. This year, that’s even more true.

After a global pandemic put events on hold in 2020, Rise returns to Southern Nevada on October 1-2. Tickets go on sale April 1.

"Our goal, as always, is to create a beautiful and safe space for all participants,” founder and owner Dan Hill says. “It’s more important now than ever to show compassion and support for your neighbors, and we hope that you’ll continue to use us as space for letting go, setting new intentions and making lasting memories."

Attendees will receive lanterns, mats, torches and markers. When they arrive, they'll find their socially distanced spot around a circular stage and settle in to listen to live music, meditate, chill and write their intentions or thoughts on the lanterns.

The musical lineup, which will be announced next week, will consist of four live bands and two DJs. Music begins at 3 p.m., and guided lantern releases kick off around 7 p.m., depending on weather conditions.

Rise Festival abides by a "better than we found it" policy. Even though the lanterns are biodegradable, the staff cleans them up each night, along with any other litter that happens to be in the area.

The event takes place at the Jean Dry Lake Bed 25 miles south of Las Vegas. To get there, drive south on Interstate 15 and take Exit 12 for Jean/Goodsprings.

Parking passes cost $29. There will also be shuttle busses (price TBA, masks required) ferrying attendees to and from the Strip. Due to the remote nature of the desert, rideshare services will not be available.

COVID-19 safety precautions will follow the CDC guidelines for mask wearing and sanitization. Food will be sold pre-packaged.

RISE FESTIVAL October 1-2, 3-10 p.m, $84-$129 (regular price). Dry Jean Lake Bed, risefestival.com.
