The Las Vegas Film Critics Society (whose members include this writer) has announced the winners of this year’s Sierra Awards, representing its picks for the best in film in 2008. Ron Howard’s Frost/Nixon, which opens in Vegas this week, dominated the awards, with wins for Best Picture, Best Director (Howard), Best Screenplay, Best Film Editing and Best Actor for star Frank Langella, who was also honored with the group’s William Holden Lifetime Achievement Award.
Other winners included Kate Winslet as Best Actress for her work in Revolutionary Road and The Reader (both opening in Vegas in January), Heath Ledger as Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight and Marisa Tomei as Best Supporting Actress for The Wrestler (also opening in Vegas in January).
