The land of plenty when it comes to rappers, Vegas has been barren on the R&B front. Only one act, 702, has generated any buzz outside the city. Felina, the first R&B act on Heat City Recordz, aims to change this with Lady Like, a likable enough debut that showcases her lilting voice. But because the album covers little new ground—rote topics include liking bad boys and dealing with a cheating boyfriend—we get too few glimpses of her considerable vocal chops.

Grounded in Belgium’s electro lineage, the band balances reverence with reinvention. Its sound pairs Gaelle Souflet’s hypnotic synth lines with Sam Hugé’s commanding baritone.
