The Las Vegas Arena will celebrate its city's musical history on opening night, with acts from three generations set to team up for a Wednesday, April 6 kickoff concert.
Headlining will be The Killers, the multi-platinum-selling rock band behind hits like "Mr. Brightside," "Somebody Told Me," "When You Were Young" and "Human." The show will mark the quartet's first public, non-festival Vegas performance since two December 2012 gigs at the Cosmopolitan.
Also on the bill: "Mr. Las Vegas" Wayne Newton, a regular on the Strip since the 1960s, and 21-year-old North Las Vegas product Shamir, whose May debut album, Ratchet, has drawn critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and Stereogum.
Tickets range from $35 to $90 and go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. through axs.com.
Thus far, along with the opening-night concert, the new arena—located between New York-New York and the Monte Carlo—has announced dates by George Strait (April 22-23, September 9-10, December 2-3, February 17-18, 2017), Janet Jackson (May 14), the Dixie Chicks (July 16) and Garth Brooks (June 24-25, July 2-4).
