It’s not every week we get to toot our own horn on a national scale, but the horns came out Tuesday for the announcement of finalists in the 2011 AltWeekly Awards. The competition, which received over 1,000 entries from magazines across the US and Canada, awards the best in writing, design, photography and online journalism in alternative newsweeklies. Las Vegas Weekly was honored in four categories this year, more than any other local publication, including Best Editorial Layout by Art Director Ryan Olbrysh, Best Photography by Leila Navidi, Best Illustration by Chris Morris and Best Feature for April Corbin’s December 2010 cover story “Citizen of Nowhere.” Wish us luck. The final winners will be announced July 22 in New Orleans.
