National Finals Rodeo | Thomas & Mack Center | December 8, 2013

In just my third month in Las Vegas I’m already covering my third rodeo, the grand National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack. The pit area where photographers are corralled adjacent to the ring can be a tight fit, too many bodies in a limited space, and spots are taken early and guarded like gems. This particular evening I had a credential issue and had to wait as it was remedied, finding myself without a place to shoot. As I have done many times over my career, I stayed calm and sought out a new location, wedging into a nook upstairs off the concourse. I found that I preferred the perspective, with cleaner backgrounds and interesting body language. Sometimes change can be a good thing.
