SlotZilla is a travesty. But the ride atop it that turns humans into harpoons—the recently opened Zoomline—is not. Whereas the Fremont Street Experience eyesore’s lower and more conventional zipline only carries participants halfway down the canopied attraction, the Zoomline spans the entire length of the tourist gauntlet due to its height (114 feet) and motorized launch (up to 40 mph). From the moment the station door opens, exposing an unforgettable bird’s-eye view, to the rush of flying Superman-style just beneath the Viva Vision (Bon Jovi, really?) and high above a cheering throng, the Zoomline is such a thrill it almost redeems the fugly facade from which it shoots its riders. Almost.
