After traveling the world, Kyle Cunningham found the Vegas Valley’s coffee scene to be lacking. Instead of just complaining, Cunningham set out to build the coffee shop of his dreams. “I wanted a space where I’d be comfortable working and hanging out with friends,” Cunningham says. So this past summer, he opened the Coffee Class in Henderson. The small, upscale coffee shop on south Eastern has a friendly vibe and a striking chandelier.

The Coffee Class’ stated mission is to “elevate your coffee house experience.” That’s accomplished with single-origin pour-over coffee and a surprisingly robust food menu. Coffee director Patrick Cantú presides over the extensive beverage options, which include signature drinks like nitro chai latte ($6.50) and a delicate rose tea latte garnished with rose petals.

There are delicious pastries and cookies on offer, but the menu’s real stars are the savory items. Unlike most coffee shops, you can come here for a filling meal, thanks to Chef Beth Ryan-Small. On a recent morning, the seductive aroma of baking bread filled the air—rosemary biscuits for Coffee Class’ chicken pot pies ($12). Fill up on breakfast and lunch paninis, served with fruit ($12). Chia parfait ($8); salad ($7); grilled cheese and soup ($14); avocado toast ($10); and an indulgent baked creme brulee french toast ($12) round out the menu.

So, will a place called Coffee Class offer coffee classes? Cunningham says that’s coming soon. Expect instruction on latte art and tea tastings, along with special events and catering options.
